They let you take full advantage of enterprise (and kitchen sink) features on the broadcom-based residential routers with support for OpenVPN, TOR, VLANs and a litany of other useful functions.

Also, the comments in that article state: The current Tomato firmware does not support any IPv6 at all and the code has been dead for two years. Now you have to figure out which mod you want to use, which can be tough since there's 10 known versions which are in various states of development or Download and install the ASUS RT-N66U Firmware Restoration utility from ASUS’ support site. Just enter RT-N66U in the search box and you should be able to find it. Download the latest version of Shibby’s RT-N66U firmware. Go for one of the ASUS RT-N66u 64K versions. Any of them will work great, take the one with features that best suit your Asuswrt-Merlin ===== This is an enhanced version of Asuswrt - the firmware used by all recent Asus routers. The goal of this project is to fix issues and bring some minor functionality adjustments to the original Asus firmware. While some features do get added, this is not the main focus of this project.
